Hey hey hey!! Welcome back old SØT members, new SØT members, and visitors!!
As I'm sure you've noticed, Sons ØF Thunder is back! After gaining some new vision for the clan (and a source of income), we've decided to take another shot at building this thing up to its' full potential! When we initially decided to end SØT back in August, we were pretty torn with the idea. I had thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you all through gaming and day-to-day talking, and I know that many of you appreciated and enjoyed hanging and gaming with us as well. But unfortunately, our clan activity and stamina was going down. I also had bigger things than gaming going on in my life and I didn't feel like I could keep up with so many pursuits.
However, my younger brother (aka Chessmen – now known as Iron!c) and I were talking recently about how much fun it would be to get back into Call of Duty and build up a clan again. This time, however, we want to build more than a clan. Our vision is to build up a community; a group of young guys and gals who can be real with each other in gaming and with everyday life. We want SØT to be a group of young individuals who can be comfortable enough with each other to become friends, not just clan members.
With the restart of Sons ØF Thunder comes the revising of old material, ideas, and rules. Below is a list of changes as well as some new ideas we are putting forth.
First of all, our Clan Rules have been revised, so please go check them out immediately! You'll notice that we've altered our “No Swearing” rule. We initially had a zero tolerance for swearing, as we don't find it to be a valid use of words, but we understand that swearing is a large part of our generation's vocabulary, and thus, we've left a bit of room in that area. What does this mean? This means that swears such as ones in frustration or over a nice kill are allowed. Excessive swearing, harsh swearing, and swearing directly at someone else will NOT be tolerated! Swearing here on the forums is also not allowed at all. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to direct them to me, though you need to be aware that we are not adjusting this rule at all.
Next, our rank system has been changed. Army ranks were used in the past as people were able to rank up due to activity, good sportsmanship, and clan dedication. However, we found that the rank system was a bit much to keep up to and that it created some-what of a competitiveness between members. We have simplified our rank system so that once you are accepted and pass the rank of Probation, you are officially the rank of Member. Ranks after that are: Server Admin, Officer, and Staff Member. However, we are NOT using a typical rank system in that, if you've been active for a while, you get promoted. Ranking up is no longer just a promotion, but it's the taking on of greater responsibility in the clan. For more information on this, please check out our Ranks in the “Information” topic.
As we take the step from a typical competitive to more of a community styled clan, this means that scheduled scrims will be reduced. Though scrims are a lot of fun, we want our main focus and pursuit to be on relationship throughout the clan and on the populating of our servers. I'm sure we'll be having scrims every now and then, but we're no longer going to be keeping track of our wins, losses, and draws.
I also need to include and stress the importance of staying active here on our forums. Staying “active” refers to being just as dedicated to viewing and posting here on the forums as you would be playing in our servers. This doesn't mean we expect you to be on the forums for the same amount of time that you're playing in-game, but this means that we'd appreciate it if you took the time to see what's going on within the clan a few times a week at least, just so that you're caught up with any news or announcements. We want these forums to be the main hub of our clan, even above our gaming servers. The more our members check the forums, the more they can be aware of what's going on within the clan. Staying active will also help members get to know each other on a level that's outside of playing in-game. What you could easily do is check the forums everyday before you start playing, just a suggestion
Alright, we're almost done. Yes, I know, I write a lot, but I can't help it! Just bare with me a little longer.
I also want to bring attention to our newly added servers. SØT used to just be Cod2 based, but now we're extending our gaming to Cod4. Yes, Cod4's not that new of a game, but I finally got a new computer that can actually run it.. lol... So we'll be having one 16 slot Cod2 server that's rifles only, then we'll be having possibly two Cod4 servers; one 16 slot that's regular weapons with a few adjustments, and one modded server. We're also going to be bringing back our Ventrilo server (*HuzzaH!*) So grab your mic and come join us for some lively conversation and gaming. If you don't know what Ventrilo is, please talk to me and I'll explain it to you. It's a really great attribute to a clan to be able to verbally communicate with each other through means of voice chat.
Lastly, but definitely not the least important, I really really REALLY want to stress the importance of clan member respect. If we're going to grow into a close group of individuals, we need to act like a close group of individuals from the very start. What does this mean? This means you treat each other how YOU would want to be treated. If you prefer others don't beak at you, then don't beak. If you prefer not to be dissed, please do yourself a favour as well as everyone else and DON'T DISS! If there's one thing I hate the most (take note of this everyone, this is #1 on Caesar's hate list) it's when young individuals who are full of great potential, stoop to a lower level of maturity by dissing others around them for no VALID reason. Guys, we're no longer in grade 4; we're not ten anymore, I'm pretty sure we should be able to treat each other with the respect that we deserve.
So, we ask that you strive to treat each other with greater respect than you'd even treat yourself. We require that you be a life-giving member to those around you; to both members and non-members, and most especially to leaders in authority. Being a “life-giving” member means to be one who's “imparting or having the ability to impart, life or vitality; invigorating, vitalizing life from one heart to the heart of another; that which makes something or someone alive; the quickening principle of real life.” Though “life-giving” is typically a Christian used term (which many of you know by now that Iron!c and I are Christians), this term is relevant to everyone. In simpler terms, being a life-giving member means you aim to bring out the best in EVERYONE around you. My biggest goal for this clan, and hopefully it'll spread to you as well, is to have a community of life-giving people.
Well...that about sums up this extremely long and wordy announcement (1420 words in all!). I hope you guys aren't scared off by my use of words, but that instead, you're just as excited as I am to get Sons ØF Thunder back up and running again. I'm confident that we'll grow into an even stronger, bigger, and exciting clan than we were before. I hope you'll join us in growing SØT to its' full potential!!
Thanks for taking the time to read! We'll see you out there! (And on HERE too!)
